An Osogbo Magistrate court has sentenced a 38-year-old Ibrahim Isiaka to six months in prison for stealing his employer’s cable.
The charge sheet also revealed that the accused set fire on the company’s cable which is contrary and punishable under section 249 D criminal code cap 34 vol.11 law of Osun State Nigeria.
According to the charge sheet, the offence was committed at Tuns Farm Nigeria Limited Ikirun road Osogbo on November 9, 2018 at about 2:30pm.
Ibrahim who was docked on two court charges pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against him.
While presenting the fact of the matter, the Investigating Police Officer told the court that the accused was burning the cable because he saw some men at Sabo burning cables to get wire and sell it.
The accused told the court that the company owed him two months salary and that was why he stole some of the cables to derive his salary from the sales.
The complainant said there has been several attempts of theft in the company but on this particular day, the accused was caught and they noticed fire in the warehouse.
He said on getting there, they saw cables burning and they suspected that the perpetrator must be within the premises.
He added that they had to force the culprit out with the threat of shooting if he refused to identify himself.
The charge sheet then stated that the stolen electric cable wire was valued at N763,500.00 property of Tuns Farm Nigeria limited, thereby committing an offence contrary and punishable under 390 6 of the criminal code cap 34 vol.11 law of osun state Nigeria 2003.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs M.A Awodele sentenced the accused to prison for 6 months without any option of fine.
