CAF Probes Super Eagles Ill-Treatment In Libya, Threatens Sanctions

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched an open investigation into the ill-treatment the Nigerian national team, Super Eagles, suffered in Libya.

In a statement on Monday, the football body also threatened to sanction those found violating its statutes and regulations.

“The matter has been referred to the CAF Disciplinary Board for investigation and appropriate action will be taken against those who violated the CAF Statutes and Regulations,” CAF said in a statement on Monday.

Osun Defender earlier reported that the national team was held hostage in Libya after arriving for the 2025 AFCON qualifier. The team endured inhumane treatment by Libyan authorities after bring left stranded for over 12 hours.

In a statement on social media, Libya alleged that their team faced similar mistreatment when they visited Nigeria for their first Group D match in Uyo last week.

In response to the poor treatment, the Super Eagles decided to boycott the match, conceding the points to Libya.

They are currently on board making their way back into the country.
