Bello Kabiru Babatunde is a 400-level student of Political Science of Ekiti State University affiliated with Osun State College of Education, Ila Orangun who is making a fortune from Furniture and Carpentry Works in the ancient town.
The young man is changing the narrative through the work which attracted him to students, lecturers and other people in Ila Orangun from packaging and advertising on his social media handles and efficient delivery to customers after purchase.
In an encounter with OSUN DEFENDER reporter on Thursday, he said he started the business as an apprentice in December, 2014 as part time. Thereafter, he graduated from secondary school and proceeded to OSSCE Ila to obtain NCE. It was after his NCE programme that he fully established himself and named his company as “Kaybest Furniture And Carpentry Works”.
Babatunde who is on second class upper division (3.99) in the institution said furniture and carpentry work is a profitable venture.
He said: “Furniture work is so good and it always profitable. I do wadrobe, kitchen cabinet, office tables and chairs, bed frame and other interiors and I am into all carpentry works. It is a work that can never be outdated instead it will always be modernised by innovation everyday.”
Success and Challenges
Through the business, Babatunde has recorded many successes which includes sponsoring his entire education and daily needs.
His challenge, however, is electricity and capital.
He said: “The electricity is not stable here in Ila Orangun and I don’t have enough capital to do some projects which I am supposed to have done successfully.”
Why Youths should embrace entrepreneurship
Babatunde also offers advice to fellow students and youths to join the vocation as there are many vacancies in it, adding that it can make them employers of labour before and after studies.
“It is no longer a world of relying on government for employment. The youth, especially students, should join the work and try their luck. Many youths can come up with ideas on packaging more than my own, and before you know it, they can grow beyond me.
“Honestly, I am not thinking about a government job now because I believe it is better to be independent and even employ others,” Babatunde stressed.
