The Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it would never work with the Modu Sherriff’s faction of the party despite an Appeal Court ruling, which confirmed Sherrif as national chairman.

Speaking during the Delta South Senatorial district’s meeting of the party at the weekend in Warri hosted by the immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, the state Chairman of the party, Mr. Kingsley Esiso, said: “The Appeal Court decided that Sheriff is chairman but in the PDP family we recognize Markafi as our chairman. The Delta PDP only recognises only one Sheriff, that is the one representing Okpe in the Delta State house of assembly.”

He said with the poor performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the PDP would win the presidential election in 2019. The meeting was reportedly hosted by the immediate past governor to dispel rumours that he was planning to decamp to the APC because of his frosty relationship with the incumbent.

The meeting, which was also attended by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and several legislators from the national and state assemblies was pivotal
coming at a time campaigns for the by-election in the Warri South 1 constituency was in top gear.

It was not surprising therefore that when Uduaghan spoke, he warned members of the party to eschew bitterness, rumour mongering and blackmail.Uduaghan commended Okowa and other concerned officials for managing the Niger Delta Avengers crisis and bringing it to control, noting that the Avengers crisis almost crippled the state economy.

He reiterated the importance of unity in the party arguing that no single individual can run a party but that with the collective will of everybody, the PDP would succeed. The party in a communiqué after the meeting passed a vote of confidence on Okowa’s led government and his deputy, Kingsley Otuaro.
