The former two-term governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has opined that democracy has the tendency to correct whatever mistakes that might have been made through it.
This is just as he admonished Nigerians to keep hope alive during this tough period.
The immediate past Ministry of Interior gave the charge on Saturday in Osogbo during the commissioning of some projects and a multi-million naira empowerment programme by the Osun Economic Development Team.
The team had provided solar-powered streetlights at Oluode and Ajegunle markets and also assisted traders in the state capital with N50 million interest-free loan.
Aregbesola appreciated the team for their kind gesture, adding that the projects and empowerment would surely have great and positive impacts on the residents of the state.
He said, “I will like to admonish us all to keep our hope alive. Things are very tough now, making many to have doubts on democracy.
“Whatever mistake we make in democracy will also be corrected through democracy. In the end we shall triumph and will have cause for gladness and rejoicing.
“I will like to thank everyone in Osogbo – traditional rulers, community leaders, the market men and women and their leaders, organised labour, the formal sector, transport unions, political parties, civil associations, students unions,
and others too numerous to mention for their kind disposition and support for us at all times.
“Once again, I thank the leadership and members of Osun Economic Development Team for inviting me to this programme and for their laudable projects that will surely have great and positive impacts on the people.”
In 2022, the Osun Econimic Development Team reconstructed the Lekuleja mosque at Oja Oba. The group also renovated parts of the Ataoja of Osogbo’s palace. The benevolence of the group was extended to Lekuleja stalls gutted by fire in 2022 as they reconstructed the burnt shops and handed them to the owners for prompt use. In addition, the owners were given cash gifts to be able to restart their businesses.
The philanthropic activities of Osun Economic Development Team was also extended to farmers in the state who received financial assistance running into millions of naira.
