Chaos As Youths Beat Ondo Monarch, Wife, Son During Yam Festival
Crisis erupted in Idogun community, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Friday, as angry youths allegedly attacked the town’s monarch, Oba Moses Bakare, his wife, and his son, identified as Victor.
The violent incident, which occurred during the annual New Yam festival, reportedly left the traditional ruler injured, while his wife was beaten and stripped half-naked by the irate youths.
Although the exact cause of the confrontation could not be immediately ascertained, residents disclosed that tension had been brewing between some sections of the community and the monarch for some time.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal, said, “The angry youths really assaulted the monarch, his wife, and son. We don’t know the main cause of the clash, but it is known that some youths in the town have long been at loggerheads with the Oba.”
He added that the situation could have escalated into a major communal crisis if not for the swift intervention of security operatives.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the matter had been reported and investigations had commenced.
“The case is under investigation and we are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is served,” Ayanlade assured.
