Chelsea Parts Ways With Head Coach Enzo Maresca
Chelsea Football Club and head coach Enzo Maresca have mutually agreed to part ways, the club announced on Thursday.
Maresca guided the Blues to victories in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup, achievements Chelsea described as “an important part of the Club’s recent history.”
A statement on the club’s website said the decision was made with the team’s ongoing ambitions in mind.
“During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions,” it read.
“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions, including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track.”
Chelsea extended their best wishes to Maresca, acknowledging his contributions.
The decision follows weeks of speculation over Maresca’s future, amid reports that he was considering stepping down due to growing tensions within the club.
The Italian coach was frustrated with what he saw as constant interference from the club hierarchy, particularly regarding recruitment and squad planning.
Those disagreements reportedly worsened after a poor run of league results left Chelsea outside the top four, despite competing in multiple tournaments.
Sources also cited issues over team selection, player management, and the club’s long-term sporting vision, which strained relations behind the scenes.
Although Maresca achieved cup success, concerns over Chelsea’s league form and overall performances continued to mount, increasing pressure on both the coach and the club’s leadership and ultimately leading to the separation.
