The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen Christopher Gwabin Musa, has ordered the immediate investigation and arrest of those behind the killing of 16 soldiers who were deployed for a peacekeeping mission to two warring communities in Bomadi LGA of Delta State.
The victims included the Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain and 12 soldiers of 181 Amphibious Battalion, Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.
Osun Defender had reported that some irate youths in the Local Government attacked the soldiers and killed them.
A statement by the director of information at the defence headquarters, Tukur Gusau, said the sixteen Nigerian soldiers were killed on Thursday.
The statement said the incident had been reported to the Delta State Government.
The statement added that “However, the military remains focused and committed to its mandate of maintaining peace and security in the country. So far, a few arrests have been made.”
