Children Day: Aregbesola Calls For Quality Education, Parental Guidance
Osun state Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has called on all stakeholders involved in the upbringing of children not to spare any amount, efforts and steps in securing quality education for their children and wards, for them to be better equipped for the challenges ahead of them.
Aregbesola said his administration is spending huge amount of money to give and promote functional education to the school children in the state, saying that failure to do so would spell doom for the society.
The governor stated this at the weekend while speaking at the March Past and Calisthenics display ceremony organized to commemorate the year 2018 National Children’s Day Celebration.
Speaking further at the event which has its theme: “Creating Safe Spaces For Our Children: Our collective responsibility”, Aregbesola said only the educated and skilled fellow will survive the future challenges.
Aregbesola who held that children deserve to be celebrated on a daily basis, said basic education is highly important for the children, noting that the state government is investing in the basic education in its effort to create a complete individual that will be useful to the society.
Speaking on the significance of the calisthenics exercise, the governor said it brings about unity and team spirit which the students and every individual needs to succeed in life, saying that the discipline which the exercise requires can be used to overcome any obstacle.
He added that modern researches have proven that physical exercises is capable of keeping away diseases from the body, adding that the calisthenics programme is a very good form of exercise for the children.
“The calisthenics display that our administration has introduced in Osun is highly essential for young children because it will imbibe in the young ones the spirit of unity, team spirit and a sense of discipline which every individual needs to succeed in life.
“It also serves as a form of exercise which everybody needs because it has been proven that exercise keeps away diseases from the body”, he stated.
In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs, Alhaja Latifat Giwa called on stakeholders involved in children upbringing in the society to rise up to the onerous task of nurturing them on the right path because they are the future.
She described the care of the children in the society as one which should not be handled with kids glove, saying every child deserves the best care that adults around can give at any point in time.
