The Adamawa State government has confirmed that the death toll from the recent cholera outbreak in the state has reached 12, with 304 individuals currently hospitalized.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Chief Felix Tangwami, provided the update during a media briefing in Yola, the state capital.
Osun Defender reports that the state government, last week, confirmed the cholera outbreak, reporting 10 deaths and the hospitalization of 76 individuals.
The affected local government areas include Girei, Furore, Yola-South, and Yola-North.
“Out of the 12 deaths, six occurred in the hospital and six outside of it. So far, 304 people have been confirmed infected and are undergoing treatment at our facility,” he stated.
Tangwami noted that since the outbreak began two weeks ago, 244 patients have been treated and discharged. He also disclosed that the United Nations Children’s Fund donated 200,000 doses of cholera drugs to the state government.

“To avoid transmission from one person to another, two individuals who visited the ward with cholera patients were quarantined by the hospital management to ensure they were not infected. Tests were conducted on them before their release,” he added.
Tangwami advised the public to adhere to health guidelines and avoid drinking untreated water, assuring that the government has implemented measures to curb the spread of cholera in the state.
