Cholera: Osun Govt Warns Against Indiscriminate Dumping Of Refuse, Harps On Hygiene

AMIDST the outbreak of Cholera in some states in the country, the Osun State Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Mayowa Adejoorin has warned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and other practices that are inimical to healthy living.

The Commissioner also said the ministry is working round the clock to ensure that residents have a cleaner environment to guard against the epidemic.

While urging residents to keep to personal hygiene, the Commissioner said anyone caught dumping refuse indiscriminately will be punished according to the law.

He said, “The Ministry is working almost every day to make sure we educate our people on the need for them to keep their environment clean.

“A public enlightenment is going on and we are also going to call major stakeholders soon to dialogue on how to improve on keeping our environment clean.

“We have been to some areas in Osogbo, including Afonta and Sabo to educate residents on why they should keep the environment clean and live a hygienic life. We’ve also been to Ile-Ife and other parts of the state.

“The state has not recorded any case of Cholera and the government under the leadership of Senator Ademola Adeleke is working round the clock to make sure the situation remains the same.

“For those dumping their refuse indiscriminately, anyone caught will be punished according to the dictates of the law. We’ve been advocating against dumping of refuse anyhow, but some people refuse to yield to instructions.

“I will urge those who still engage in indiscriminate dumping of refuse to desist. We now have environment marshals, who clean our environment and anyone caught will not go unpunished. What we need is the people’s cooperation to guide against sicknesses and diseases,” Adejoorin stated further.
