Residents and citizens of Osun State have high hopes on the 25 members of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s cabinet.
Those who spoke to OSUN DEFENDER over the weekend want the administration to surpass its predecessors, championing the cause for a greater state.
The residents and citizen say now that the Governor has formed his cabinet, real governance should begin with the implementation of policies targeted at bettering the lot of the people.
Political analysts are also of the opinion that the new Commissioners and Heads of government Boards and Agencies should get to work to implement the five-point agenda of the Adeleke administration.
‘Focus On Growing Local Economy, Job Creation, Infrastructure’
A public affairs analyst, Comrade Abdulfatai Kayode told OSUN DEFENDER In a chat that the government needs to roll out programmes that will boost the local economy and create jobs for the teeming youth population.
Comrade Kayode described Osun as a state with a rapidly growing economy, which should be sustained in the empowerment of small and medium scale business owners to further create opportunities in employment and social services.
His words: “I congratulate the new appointees. The time for congratulations is over. We want them to get to work. Nationally, the economy is not smiling. You can see the myriads of challenges facing us as a state. Our people should stop storming their offices to congratulate them. They should resume and allow them work.
“The primary responsibility of every government is the security and the welfare of the people. They should begin work and focus on the critical areas. In fact, what I will propose is that they roll out palliatives to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal. The pains are much. They should work for the people.
“The business of governance is not a tea party. If indeed they are competent enough, let them sit down to solve our problems. That is why they took the job. We wish them well.”
A media executive, Fatai Olamide explained that the media is keeping an eye on the performance rate of the appointees, urging them to work assiduously to aid the development of the state.
“The media is readily watchful of the actions and inactions of the Adeleke administration. A lot of people want infrastructure as it is the bedrock of development. We are really in need of a better local economy. The cabinet has a lot to do.
“The media will do its job. We will keep tabs on the progress report and aid how government will respond to the yearnings and aspirations of the people,” Olamide noted.
“We Will Not Let You Down” – Information Commissioner
Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Barr. Kolapo Alimi while speaking on a private radio station in the state on Friday, promised that the cabinet and new appointees will not let the governor and the people of Osun State down.
Alimi also expressed confidence in the ability of the cabinet to deliver in its mandate.
He said: “The Governor has appointed competent people in his cabinet. We are all eminently qualified to be in the cabinet. Everyone appointed submitted their curriculum vitae and were screened from the party level and two times at the House of Assembly before we were sworn in.
‘If he has appointed people from the family of his late brother, Isiaka Adeleke, it is not pettiness and disregard for the people. It is to embrace and note competence and honour the legacy of Serubawon, who did a lot for the state when he was alive. It is to honour him.
“Let me assure you that we will continue to brief the people on the programmes and policies of the Adeleke administration and provide time to time details of how things stand. We promise to be transparent and accountable to the people,” Alimi remarked.
