Former Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, has declared that the emerging opposition coalition is focused on ending what he described as the “weaponization of poverty” under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking at a gathering in Abuja, Atiku said he, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and other key political figures are united in their stance against the current government’s economic policies, which he claimed have deepened hardship across the country.

Atiku described himself and Amaechi as “conspirators” in the fight to dismantle policies he believes are deliberately impoverishing Nigerians.

“You may call me a conspirator or anything, but that is why we are in this alliance to make sure we don’t allow them to continue their weaponizing policies,” Atiku said.

“One of our star conspirators is Rotimi Amaechi, and we will continue to conspire with him to minimize poverty and ensure that state machinery is not used to weaponize it.”

OSUN DEFENDER reports that the opposition coalition, led by Atiku, Amaechi, El-Rufai, and other prominent political stakeholders, has been holding strategic meetings in recent weeks to finalize modalities for a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Their goal, according to sources, is to unseat the Tinubu administration and reverse what they consider a dangerous trend of using poverty as a tool of political control.
