The coalition of opposition political parties in Gombe State has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the platform to contest the 2027 elections in the state.

The adoption of the ADC was announced during an “Expanded Caucus Meeting” held on Tuesday in Gombe.

The meeting was attended by the officials of the party and prominent members from the opposition parties in the state.

Speaking at the event, a former Minister of Transportation and leader of the coalition in the state, Senator Abdullahi Idris Umar, said the alliance by the opposition parties which adopted the ADC is not aimed at only ousting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from power, but also “to salvage people of Gombe state, the nation and its citizens from the current socio-economic woes inflicted by the party.”

He urged the electorate to act wisely in the next elections, noting that they are the ultimate judges between the ruling party and the opposition.

The former minister also announced plans by the ADC to commence registration of members in the 114 wards of the state, aimed at expanding the party’s membership and reach.
Senator Idris stated that the party is open to everyone, regardless of their background or political affiliation.

Earlier, the state Chairman of ADC, Auwal Abba Barde, welcomed all new entrants into the party, assuring them of a warm reception and opportunities to contribute to the party’s victory in the next elections.

He stressed the need for a change of power at both the state and federal levels, citing the current challenges facing the state and the nation.

The meeting was attended by prominent key political figures from both the PDP and ruling APC, including gubernatorial aspirants under PDP in 2023, AVM Adamu Fura (Rtd), and Dr Babayo Ardo.

While from the APC, former deputy governor of the state, John Lazarus Yoriyo, and representatives of the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), as well as former commissioners and stakeholders across major parties, were in attendance.
