A 30-year-old man, Wasiu Kazeem, has been remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre over the death of a 60-year-old man, Gabriel Adeeyo, by a Magistrate Court in Osogbo.
Kazeem, a commercial driver of one Mitsubishi bus with Registration Number RLG 799 XA was said to have driven dangerously on the highway which resulted to Adeeyo’s death.
The defendant was also accused of driving on the highway without driver licence, insurance and road worthiness.
Account to the charge sheet obtained by OSUN DEFENDER on Wednesday, the defendant committed the offence on February 19, 2022 at about 8:30pm at Onward Junction, Osogbo.
But the accused person pleaded not guilty to a six-count charge bordering on dangerous driving and manslaughter levelled against him.
Defence counsel, Kehinde Adepoju prayed the court to admit the defendant to bail on a liberal term, promising that he will provide a reliable surety and would not jump bail.
However, the police prosecutor, Inspector Jacob Akintunde, opposed the bail application, arguing that the offence involved a loss of life, and that the defendant may jump bail if admitted to.
The presiding Magistrate, O.A Daramola ordered that the defendant be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre and a formal bail application should be provided.
The case was adjourned till April 4, 2022 for ruling on bail.
