A 25-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Joshua Moses, was on Wednesday arraigned in Akure over alleged theft of goods worth ₦90,700.
Moses is facing a count charge of stealing at an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Martins Olowofeso, told the court that the accused broke into the house of one Mrs Bamidele Folake and stole one Violin valued ₦12,000, one 12.5kg gas cylinder valued ₦6,000.
He alleged that the accused also stole one microwave oven valued ₦18, 000.
Olowofeso said that other items stolen by the accused are—a pair of slippers valued ₦2,000, one DSTV decoder valued ₦24,000, one OX fan valued ₦10,000, one DVD player valued ₦5,000.
He said that the accused also stole four pieces of blankets valued ₦28,000.
The prosecutor gave the total value of stolen items as ₦90,700.
He alleged that the accused committed the offence on January 10, 2017 at about 9:00 p.m., at Alagbaka in Akure, Ondo State.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap. 37, Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
Moses, however, pleaded not guilty.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Femi Owolafe, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.
He assured the court that the accused person was ready to provide the court with a reliable surety who would ensure his appearance in court.
In her ruling on the bail application, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Bob-Manuel said that the surety must be a resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
She said that the surety must provide evidence of tax payment for a year, and two passport-sized photographs of the surety and the accused.
The magistrate said that surety must provide the court with the official and residential address of himself and the accused, which would be verified by the court.
The case was adjourned to March 20, for trial.
