Commercial Motorcyclist Murdered, Buried In Thick Forest

A commercial motorcyclist from Ile-Ife, State of Osun, Yakubu Zakariyau, has been murdered by two suspected armed robbers.

Zakariyau was buried inside a thick forest with his mobile phone in Ibadan, Oyo State, after been killed by the armed robbery suspects.

The deceased, according to the police, was declared missing on July 4, 2022 through a petition by his father who said his son left Ile-Ife to Oyo State at about 09:30am on the same date after he received an urgent call from an unknown number (08100079001). 

Parading one of the suspects on Tuesday, at the police headquarters, Osogbo, the Police Public Relations Officer, Osun Command, Mrs. Yemisi Opalola, said Zakariyau’s father said somebody called his son on phone to come and pick him and he never returned home since then.

Opalola said: “On July 4, 2022, the complaint reported through a petition that his son, one Yakubu Zakariyau, now deceased; who was a commercial motorcyclist in Ile- Ife, Osun State and Ibadan, Oyo State left home on the same date at 09:30 hrs after receiving an urgent call from an unknown number (08100079001) to come and pick him.

“Since then, he has never returned home and sweats made to detect him proved unproductive.

“Immediately the report was received, Police detective from Anti-Kidnapping section swung into action and through diligently and scientifically anatomized intelligence led investigation, the Police operative was able to arrest one of the suspects, one Akinola Michael in Ibadan.

“He confessed to have concertedly killed the departed with one Alekuso Rotimi now at large at Ogundipe Zone II area, Egbeda L.G.A, Ibadan with hammer and buried him with his phone in a thick forest while his Bajaj motorcycle was taken down by the suspects.

“Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to arrest other conspirators”.

The arrested suspect, Akinola disclosed to journalists during the parade that the deceased was killed with hammer.
