Nigeria’s table tennis team claimed the country’s first medal at the ongoing Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games winning the first silver medal.
The team led by Sugun Toriola lost Monday’s final 3-0 to India who claimed gold.
Segun Abiodun lost the first match 3-1 (4-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-9) to Sharath Achanta while Toriola also suffered a 3-1 (10-12, 11-3, 11-3, 11-4) defeat to Sathiyan Gnanasekaran in match 2.
In the doubles event, the pair of Bode Abidoun and Olajide Omotayo lost in straight sets 11-8, 11-5. 11-3 to Harmeet Desai and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran.
