Over fifty communities in the Ibarapa East Local Government area of Oyo State have been left cut off following the collapse of a bridge over the Ipin River.
The incident, which occurred after recent heavy rains in the region, has caused significant disruptions for residents who rely on the bridge for access to essential services and transportation.
Some of the residents who spoke on condition of anonymity said it has created hardship for the approximately fifty communities that depend on the vital connection.
They called on the Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, to intervene and provide assistance to the affected areas.
They also urged the chairman of the local government, Hon. Kazeem Arogundade, to expedite plans for the reconstruction of the bridge.

One resident from Eruwa told journalists that the recent rainfall, particularly from October 11th to the morning of October 12th, was unprecedented, contributing to the bridge’s collapse.
“It is common knowledge that nobody could prevent rain from falling during its season, but the intensity of the recent rainfall was alarming,” the resident said.
Efforts by newsmen to reach Hon. Kazeem Arogundade for comments on the situation were unsuccessful, as calls to his mobile phone went unanswered and a WhatsApp message sent to him received no response.
