Community Cries Out Over Poor Road Condition

  • Islamiat Makanjuola, Akintunde Madamidola

Residents of the Kobongbogboe area of Osogbo have appealed to the state government to fix their deplorable road.

The residents, who spoke with OSUN DEFENDER in separate interviews on Tuesday, said the road that linked Kobo to other communities has been in a bad state for years.

According to the residents, the road links communities like Aratunmi, Idi Osan, Abidogun, Kelebe, and Iragbiji, among others.

They noted that the deplorable road has not only led to hardship for the users but also caused accidents with some victims sustaining life-threatening injuries.

Speaking with the medium, a resident of the area who identified herself as Omowunmi Owolade, said motorists and motorcycle riders had to take a longer route to link other communities.

She Said; “A lot of accidents have been recorded on the road; I have had accident twice on this same road. We have been calling government attention to it for over six years but nothing has been done. It Is getting worse every year due to flood and erosion.

“The community has tried a lot, we have contributed to patch the road. But the heavy rainfall keeps destroying it.”

Another resident who gave her name as Mrs Suliyat Oyebamiji, noted that the road has been in a poor state for almost seven years, adding that it became completely inaccessible for vehicles four years ago.

He said: “We recognized the activities of our community leaders, they tried their best to repair the road. But the task and cost are more than what the community at large can do on their own and the government agencies have visited the road almost 10 times. Several meetings have been done, even they were here last year December, and nothing is yet to be done.”
