Comparison Between Kanu, Igboho Misleading, Says IPOB
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has rejected remarks by presidential aide Sunday Dare comparing the legal situations of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and self-determination activist Sunday Igboho, describing the comparison as misleading.
In a statement issued on February 18, 2026, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said the circumstances surrounding both figures were different and should not be treated as the same.
The group stressed that Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, remains committed to the objectives of the movement and its advocacy.
IPOB also referred to historical examples of political and social activists who faced legal challenges, noting that such experiences were not unusual in struggles tied to self-determination and political agitation.
The organisation called on stakeholders to focus on constructive dialogue and peaceful engagement in addressing the political aspirations of its members.
It further reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing its goals through advocacy and public engagement, while urging Nigerians to prioritise peace, security and respect for the rule of law.
IPOB concluded by stating that it remains focused on its objectives and encouraged all parties to operate within legal and democratic frameworks.
