Conclude Teachers Recruitment Exercise Or Face Legal Action – Oke To Osun State Govt
The lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Hon. Oluwole Oke, has given the Osun State government a seven-day ultimatum to either finalise the recruitment of teachers or refund the fees paid by applicants.
Oke, in a statement by his media unit on Wednesday, expressed concern over the fact that application fees were collected from the applicants for secondary school teaching positions nearly two years ago, with the recruitment process yet to be concluded.
The statement said the failure to finalise the recruitment exercise or refund the fees has subjected many applicants to prolonged uncertainty and economic hardship.
“Consequently, Hon. Oke has formally demanded that the Osun State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, take decisive action within seven (7) days.
“The government must immediately commence and conclude the recruitment of qualified teachers for public secondary schools or refund in full all application fees collected from the affected applicants.”
He warned that failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe would compel affected applicants and stakeholders to pursue all lawful means of redress available to them.
The federal lawmaker further clarified that the recruitment of primary school teachers falls strictly within the statutory responsibility of the Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs).
He emphasised that any application fees collected under the guise of primary school teacher recruitment outside this legal framework are unlawful and must be refunded without delay.
