The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) South West Zone on Saturday issued a three-day ultimatum to the management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree to conduct the suspended Students’ Union Government election in the institution or it will mobilise its members to massively protest against the ‘subtle’ decision of the management to impose a caretaker committee.
NAPS said this in a press statement that was signed by Zonal Coordinator, NAPS Southwest Zone, Comr. Obasanya Monday Johnson.
Also, NAPS alleged that attempts to reach the institution’s Directorate of Students’ Affairs has been blocked, which has fueled suspicions of a hidden agenda to impose a caretaker committee.
NAPS Southwest Zone further asserted that it “condemns this undemocratic move, which undermines the fundamental rights of students to elect their representatives and hope of bring back SUG in the polytechnic community. We demand that the polytechnic management conducts the SUG election within the next three working days.
“Failure to comply with this ultimatum will lead to a massive protest, as we will not stand idly by while the rights of our Students are trampled upon. We urge the polytechnic management to respect the democratic process and allow students to choose their leaders.
