The Taminu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has announced the appointment of a caretaker committee to oversee affairs of the party in Osun State.

The announcement was made in a statement signed on Thursday by Theophilus Dakas Shan, National Organising Secretary of the PDP.

He stated that the appointment was made by the National Working Committee (NWC) acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025, as amended).

The PDP named  Hon. Tunde Tijani, as the caretaker Chairman, while Hon. Bamidele Seyi-Abiola was named Secretary.

Other members of the committee include, Lateef Mumini Obide, Alhaji Sarafa Gbadamosi, Adewoyin Babatunde, Ajileye Wasiu Aderemi, and Oluresi Michael Adebanji.

The appointment of the caretaker committee in Osun State came as a surprise as the party has an elected chairman, Sunday Bisi, who has not resigned from the PDP.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that the governor of the state, Ademola Adeleke, in December 2025, joined the Accord Party after dumping the PDP.

Following Adeleke’s defection and emergence as the gubernatorial candidate of the Accord Party, Bisi declared that the PDP would deploy all its structures to deliver victory for the Governor in the 2026 governorship election in the state.

According to Bisi, the PDP does not have any other governorship candidate apart from Adeleke, who is contesting under the Accord Party.

Meanwhile, the PDP in the statement tasked the committee to manage party affairs for a tenure not exceeding 90 days or until new executive committees are elected.

The statement said the committee is expected to operate strictly under the guidance of the PDP Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).
