Consider Our Plights, Ede Community Appeals To Adeleke Over Diversion Of Water Channel
Two weeks after raising the alarm over the diversion of water channels to their community,
residents of Irewunmi Community, Bintinlaye, Owode-Ede, have again appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke to consider their plights by redirecting the channel.
The community had earlier accused the contractor handling the reconstruction of the road of diverting the water channel into the community without proper consideration.
They argued that there is no river in the community to connect the water to allow free flow, adding that the diversion of the water channel would endanger the community as many houses would be affected by flooding during the rainy season.
Some of the community members who spoke with OSUN DEFENDER on Wednesday said they thought the government would listen to their complaints about the diversion but work is about starting on the project.
They urged Governor Adeleke to intervene on the matter.
“We appeal to our amiable Governor to please consider our plights. We have been living in panic since the project began. This is not the right place to divert the water coming from the main road to.
“Before now, we were experiencing flooding in this community but the situation will get worse with this diversion. We are not against it but there is no river nor stream to connect it with.
But the Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin told OSUN DEFENDER that action will be taken on the matter.
Adejorin stated this in a message sent toour correspondent.
“It will be attended to. Thanks,” the message reads.
