Popular content creator Oriyomi Olaniyi, widely known as Omoga Entertainment, narrowly escaped death after staging a prank in Lagos State, where he wielded an object resembling an AK-47 and disguised himself as a terrorist.

In a video circulating online, Olaniyi was seen wearing a jalabiya, a mask, and clutching the gun-like object tucked inside a black pouch.

He made a phone call in unclear Hausa in front of a shop, seemingly to frighten his targets. His appearance caused immediate panic among passersby, who confronted him and began beating him, mistaking him for a real terrorist. One of the enraged men even picked up a bottle to attack him.

Despite Olaniyi shouting that it was only a prank, the attackers continued, with some bystanders yelling “werey ni e” in Yoruba, meaning “You are mad.”

The video later shows onlookers intervening after realising the gun was fake and that Olaniyi was a content creator. The crowd eventually scattered, and he was seen thanking those who interceded for him in Yoruba, saying “Ese gan, ema binu,” meaning “Thank you very much, don’t be angry.”

The incident sparked online discussions about the dangers of extreme pranks in Nigeria, especially amid rising insecurity.

An X user, @productivityVA, said, “Tension is already high, playing with people’s fear isn’t a prank, it’s reckless.”

@folushoposter commented, “Na those guys I blame, make he come do that yeye prank for my area, white house for Agbado. 10 secs blood don dey everywhere.”

@Kamoflag added, “When I tell people Nigeria can never be better, this part of it. Some Nigerians are just so stupid that everything is cruise or joke. People are losing their lives. Yet, it’s a trend on TikTok or skit for some dumb Nigerians.”

In another video after the incident, Olaniyi noted that he would not attempt such a prank again and advised fellow content creators to be cautious about the pranks they play during this period.
