The Grand Khadi, of Kano Shariah court, Dr Tijjani Yusuf Yakasai ordered a review of the case of a convict waiting for the execution of a Shariah court order to have his left leg and right hand amputated.

Osun Defender gathered that the convict has been in a Kano prison for 18 years without the execution being carried out.

The medium learnt that the court had found him guilty of armed robbery and theft and therefore ordered the amputation of his hand and leg in accordance with the provisions of the Sharia Penal Code.

However, Dr Yakasai set up a committee to review his case after spending 18 years in prison without the execution of the court order.

Spokesman of the Kano State Command of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Misbahu Kofar Nasarawa, said the review committee was to be headed by an Upper Shariah Court Khadi, Abdullahi Sarki Yola, to be assisted by five other khadis as members.

Nasarawa said that the state’s Controller of NCoS, Suleiman Inuwa, expressed delight with the gesture, saying it would help decongest the facility.

He, therefore, urged the 147 other inmates convicted for minor offences and granted clemency by the committee to be of good behaviour.
