Corps Member Donates Toilet Facility To School

As part of his community service, efforts, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Kiso Terhemen Simon has constructed a modern toilet facility at Apostolic Middle School, Ipetumodu, Ife North Local Government Area of the state of Osun.

Simon who serves in the school, has also provided materials, including chalk boards and hand wash containers for the use of teachers and students in the school.

Kiso Simon, a graduate of theater Arts at Benue State University who teaches English Language in the middle school, is the President, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Ife-North, as well as the president of National Association of Catholic Corpers (NACC) Ife.

Speaking at the commissioning of the project, Simon said he was encouraged to construct the facility and provide materials needed for teaching and learning, with a view to ensuring that the pupils remain healthy.

“Apostolic middle school is one of the oldest schools established in Ipetumodu, housing both the primary school and secondary school with the population of over 1000 students with about 29 teachers, 5 N-power staff and 14 Corp members with no toilet facility, posing a health hazard to the school environment where the surrounding is faced with open defecation.

“Being a Corp member and a president of SDGs and having under gone a training with this prestigious organization, I have decided to embark on the rescue mission to alleviate the situation.

“Like an impossible mission that has become possible, though tough to achieved, but today it’s a success to reckon with.

“In any success story is a pillar, it is on this premise that the roles of Local Government, Inspector (LGI) Mr. Olusegun Olatunji; the Principal, Mrs. Olaobaju and her vice, Mr. K.B Akinwemimo, as well as the chairman, Ife-North Local Government are acknowledged for their tireless contribution and patriotism towards the success of the project”, he stressed.

Simon who urged other corps members to utilise the opportunity they have to build their dreams, irrespective of the circumstance surrounding their national service, urged them to be strong to stand above all obstacle and prepare their mind for or against the situation.

He said: “The NYSC which was established in 1973 by Yakubu Gowon to unite Nigeria from the menace of the civil war today has taking a different pedigree; a call to service is a call in totality.

“Today, the core aim of the service is technically defeated, this is because, the scheme today you will see the Easterners posted to North redeployed to their region and vice-versa, hence with connection, a corp member can select where he intends to serve.

“However, for the sustainability of this scheme, it needs to be restructured to meet up the present economic situation in the country”, he stressed.
