Correctional Service Asks FG To Abolish WAEC, NECO Fees For Inmates

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has called on the federal government to abolish both the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) examination fees for inmates.

In a statement, Chukwuedo Humphrey, FCT command spokesman, said the waiver will enable more inmates to be enrolled for the examinations.

He said the command recently completed registration for 53 inmates in Kuje and Suleja custodial centres in preparation for the WAEC November/December senior school examination for external candidates.

He said Ahmed Musa, controller, FCT command, advised the inmates to shun examination malpractices and make themselves available for the ongoing intensive preparation classes.

He said this was in order to make good grades, adding that it is imperative to their smooth reintegration into society after serving their terms of imprisonment.

He quoted the controller as saying that the custodial centres are known for producing candidates with excellent results.

He urged them to look beyond incarceration and see the hope that education brings, and not no to allow the efforts of the service to go to waste.

The NCoS boss appreciated the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that volunteered their resources and time towards making the registration a success.
