Coup: DSS Charges Man For Alleged Call To Overthrow Tinubu
A middle-aged-man, Innocent Chukwuemeka Onukwume (27), has been charged by the Department of State Services, DSS, for allegedly calling for the overthrow of President Bola Tinubu’s administration through a military coup.
Onukwume, a resident of Umusayo Layout in Oyigbo Local Government Area, Rivers State, reportedly made the calls for a coup in tweets posted on his X account (@theagroman) in October, according to the charges.
The charges, filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja under case number FHC/ABJ/CR/610/2025, alleged that Onukwume also sought assistance from members of the military to execute the alleged coup.
The filing was submitted on November 11 by A. M. Danalami on behalf of the DSS.
In one of his posts, Onukwume reportedly wrote: “A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigeria government and join the AES. That is all we need now.” In another, he allegedly stated: “Tinubu has to go and APC has to die for Nigeria to have any semblance of normal life. And if you think your stupid, votes can remove Tinubu. I’m here to tell you that you’re a fool.”
The DSS stated that his online statements constitute offences under Sections 46A(1) and 59(1) of the Criminal Code Act, as well as the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2024 (as amended), and are punishable by law.
Onukwume was arrested in Port Harcourt last month following intelligence monitoring of online activity deemed a threat to national security. Court proceedings are expected to commence later this week
