Court Bars New Kontagora Emir From Parading Himself As Monarch

The newly appointed Emir of Kotangora, Mohammed Kontagora, has been ordered to stop parading himself as the seventh emir of the town by a Minna High Court.

The order followed a motion of ex parte brought before it by the 15 plaintiffs’ lawyer, Mr W. Y, Mamman, who prayed the court for an interim injunction restraining Kontagora as the substantive Emir of Kontagora pending the determination of the motion on notice before it.

The motion challenged the selection process purportedly held on the 19th of September and prayed court to order the defendant respondents, their agents or any other person to stop claiming or parading himself as the new Emir of Kontagora.

Justice Mikail, after listening to the ex parte motion, issued an order restraining Kotangora, from parading himself as the new Emir.

The High Court judge also issued interim injunction to the government not to present the new Emir of Kontagora with a staff of office pending the determination of the ex parte motion.

The case was further adjourned to October 20 for further hearing.
