Court Grants Ademola Adeleke Bail In Exam Malpractice Suit

The Nigeria Police on Wednesday arraigned Senator Ademola Adeleke (Osun West) and four others before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja over their alleged involvement in examination malpractices.

Adeleke, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state and others were slammed with a four-count charge filed in the name of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of fraudulently, through impersonation, registering as students of Ojo-Aro Community Grammar School, Ojo-Aro, Osun State to enable them sit for the National Examination Council (NECO) examination of June/July 2017.

Named with Adeleke, in the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/156/2018, are: Sikiru Adeleke, Alhaji Aregbesola Mufutau (Principal of the school), Gbadamosi Thomas Ojo (school Registrar) and Dare Samuel Olutope (teacher).

He has denied the allegation and alleged political withchunt.

Adeleke was however granted bail on self-recognizance by Justice I E, Ekwo.

The court ordered him to deposit his international passport with the registrar.

Senator Adeleke was also asked to sign a bond stating that he will always be present at his trial.

Recall that the Police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood had said that investigations revealed that Senator Adeleke and his brother Sikiru Adeleke registered and sat for the National Examination Council Examination (NECO) 2017 as internal candidates, impersonating students of the school at the ages of 57 and 42 years respectively.

Moshood explained further that both Senator Adeleke and his brother Sikiru Adeleke’ s pictures were captured in the school’s photo book of 2017 but no NECO seal was found on their photos, unlike the rest of the students.

The Police had also in a statement on added that investigation revealed some culpability facts against Senator Ademola Adeleke and four others.

“Senator Ademola Adeleke made the cautionary statement and admitted that he registered for the 2017 NECO examinations as an internal student in the said school and did not sit for the examination but have a result from NECO with Seven Credit and One Pass, a copy of which was obtained from NECO by the Police.

“The Ojo/Aro 2017 NECO, SSCE school photo album (School’s copy), with Senator Ademola Adeleke and Sikiru Adeleke Photographs in school uniform in the said album. Senator Ademola Adeleke in the NECO 2017 Result obtained, claimed that he was born on 12th June 1997 but in his statement to the Police, senator Ademola Adeleke wrote 13th May 1960 as his date of birth.

“The photographs of both Senator Ademola Adeleke and Sikiru Adeleke appearing side by side in the photo album have no NECO stamps on them,” the statement read in part

Senator Adeleke narrowly lost to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gboyega Oyetola, in the governorship election. He is however, challenging the result at the election tribunal where he is asking to be declared the governor elect.
