Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court.on Friday, granted bail to Bristol Isaac Tamunobifiri, also known as PIDOM Nigeria.
The judge emphasized that bail is a constitutional right, except in cases where there’s reason to believe the defendant might evade trial or destroy evidence.
The court set the bail at N5 million with one surety in like sum.
Justice Nwite stated, “Bail is a constitutional right, except where there is reasonable ground to believe that the defendant might evade trial or attempt to destroy evidence.” He added, “All factors must be considered in granting bail, especially since criminal justice provides safeguards for both prosecution and defence.”
Osun Defender reported that Mr Tamunobifiri was arrested on August 5 in Rivers State and arraigned on September 3 on a nine-count charge.
He’s accused of obtaining and distributing classified government documents, destroying evidence, and violating money laundering and cybercrime laws. Specifically, he allegedly shared documents claiming President Bola Tinubu released N24.1 billion to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, which was later increased to N90 billion.

The prosecutor, Simon Lough (SAN), contended that Mr. Tamunobifiri “unlawfully obtained and distributed classified government documents, destroyed evidence and contravened relevant money laundering and cybercrime laws.”
The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
The judge directed Mr. Tamunobifiri to provide a surety with a verified tax clearance certificate and address. He must also deposit his international passport with the court. If he fails to comply with these conditions, his bail will be revoked.
The case has been adjourned until November 5 for trial..
