Court Jails Traditional Ruler 12 Months For Defrauding Prophet

An Osogbo Magistrate Court on Monday, sentenced a 50-year – old man, Mustapha Nasiru, to 12 months imprisonment in Ilesa prison custody over Fraud.
Mustapha Nasiru, who is the Baale Owode area of Osogbo” Ataoja in Council” is facing three count charges bothering on fraud and threat to life.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Adegoke had told the court that the convict committed the offence sometimes in May 2016 at Owode area, Osogbo.
Adegoke said the convict who happened to be a Chief to the Oba Ataoja of Osogboland fraudulently collected the sum of N650,000 from one prophet Adeyeye with intent to sell him two plots of land located at Owode area.
“The convict deceived the complainant and collected N650,000 from him knowning fully that the land did not belong to him.
“He even threatened to kill the complainant when he asked after his money,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said the offence committed contravened sections 419, 390(9), and 86 of the criminal code.
The defendant was found guilty by the Magistrate after several proceedings before the judgement.
The magistrate, Mrs Aminat Oloyade ordered the accused person to be remanded in Ilesha prison custody due to the magnitude of the offence committed or pay an option of fine of N20,000.
