Court Orders Forefeiture Of Emefiele’s $2 Million, Seven Properties

A federal high court in Lagos has ordered the final forfeiture of $2.045 million, seven properties, and two share certificates linked to Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The judgment was delivered on Friday by Justice Deinde Dipeolu, who ruled that Emefiele could not demonstrate a legitimate source of funds connecting his time at Zenith Bank and the CBN to the acquisition of these assets.

The properties in question, along with the substantial monetary assets, were reportedly traced to Emefiele, raising concerns over the legitimacy of their acquisition.

The judge stated that Emefiele had failed to provide adequate documentation or proof to establish that he rightfully owned the properties, leading to the court’s decision for permanent forfeiture.

Included in the forfeiture order are seven prime pieces of real estate as well as two share certificates from Queensdorf Global Fund Limited Trust.
