Court Orders PDP, Damagum To Conduct Party’s National Convention
An Oyo State High Court has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, to proceed with the party’s national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The presiding judge, Justice A. L. Akintola, issued the order on Monday following an ex parte application filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi, a party member.
The suit, filed earlier the same day, listed the PDP, Damagum, Governor Umar Fintiri of Adamawa State, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants.
In his application, Adelabi sought an interim injunction restraining the defendants from truncating, frustrating, or disrupting the implementation of the guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities for the convention.
He argued that any attempt to delay or suspend the event would violate the party’s internal democratic process and the right of members to elect new national officers.
Justice Akintola, in granting the order, directed the PDP leadership to adhere strictly to the provisions of the approved timetable and ensure that the national convention holds as planned.
The judge further ordered all parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the substantive motion on notice.
