A 30-year-old man, Patrick Umeh, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Osogbo magistrate’s court for alleged manslaughter.
Umeh, according to the charge sheet, recklessly drove one Toyota Hiace with Registration Number, FKJ 797 XX on the highway and caused the death of one Sefiu Aderoki.
The accused person also allegedly caused injury and pain to two other persons, Sikiru Muritala and Raheem Jamiu.
Umeh who was arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on dangerous driving and manslaughter, allegedly committed the offence on August 3, 2020 at about 3:30pm at Agunbelewo area, Osogbo.
Police prosecutor, Abiodun Fagboyinbo, said the offence contravened Sections 4 and 5 of the Federal Highway Act Cap 34. Vol.II Laws of Osun State 200 and Section 81 of RTA cap 115 Vol.II of the Road Traffic Act, Laws of Osun State 2003.
But, the accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.
Defense counsel, Odeh Emmanuel, prayed the court for the bail of the accused person, saying that there was an ongoing move between the family of the deceased and the accused person to solve the matter.
Magistrate F.I. Omisade ordered that the accused person be remanded in Police Custody, just as he adjourned the case till August 6, 2020 for ruling on the bail application.
