Court Remands Suspect Who Allegedly Shot Police Officers, Burnt Patrol Vehicle
AN Osun State Magistrate Court, sitting in Osogbo, has ordered the remand of a 40-year-old man, Saheed Kareem, in Ilesa custodial centre, for allegedly shooting seven police officers with intent to kill them during the last Ifon/Ilobu communal clash.
Kareem was said to have conspired with other suspects at large to attack the policemen while performing their lawful duties.
He was also accused of causing damage to police patrol vehicle by setting it on fire.
The accused person allegedly armed himself with guns and other dangerous weapons with which he terrorised innocent citizens of Ilobu community and engaged in the destruction of properties.
The charge sheet indicated that the defendant committed the offence between September 17, and October 4, 2023 at about 6:30am at Ilobu.
In his ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Dr. Olusegun Ayilara ordered that the defendant be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre.
Ayilara directed the Defence Counsel to file a formal bail application for the accused person.
The case was adjourned till December 5, 2023.
