Court Remands Woman Who Killed Son To Punish Husband

By Solomon Odeniyi

A 33-year-old mother, Rukayat AbdulRaheem
who killed her son to punish her husband
has been arraigned before a magistrate court, sitting in Osogbo, the capital of the state of Osun.

She was accused of throwing her three-year-old son, AbdulGaniyu AbdulRaheem into a well, which led to the death of the baby.

According to the charge sheet made available to OSUN DEFENDER on Monday, the offence was committed on November 17, 2019, around 5:30am at Tokotaya Street, Kolabalogun Area, Osogbo.

The woman was arraigned on a one count charge of murder and her plea was not taking because the magistrate court lacks jurisdiction to hear the case.

However,  Defence Counsel, Mr Muideen Adeoye had objected to the reading of the charge and pleaded to the court to send the suspect back to police custody for further investigation.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Temitope Fatoba opposed the application on the ground that the charge sheet was prepared by the police’s Legal Practitioner Officer.

However, Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara in his ruling ordered that the accused person be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre, just as he adjourned the case till December.
