Court Sacks Babatunde Ibirogba As Areago Of Ara Kingdom
A magistrate court sitting in Ejigbo has reportedly removed Hon. Babatunde Ibirogba Eleniyan from the chieftaincy title of Areago of Ara Kingdom.
The development comes amid a long-running dispute over chieftaincy and political influence in the Ara community.
Ibirogba was installed as Areago of Ara on May 7, 2020. The appointment was a subject of controversy and opposed by some ruling houses. That dispute has been part of wider chieftaincy tensions in Ara.
OSUN DEFENDER reports Ibirogba served as Special Adviser on Water Resources, Rural Development and Community Affairs under former governor Rauf Aregbesola.
He was also a former member of the Osun State House of Assembly who represented Egbedore constituency in the State House of Assembly.
He has also held leadership roles in the state assembly, including work on the House Committee on Education
He, however, lost his assembly seat in 2023 to Rotimi Adesola Ogunrinade of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
