Five herdsmen have been sentenced to life imprisonment for offences bothering on kidnapping and illegal possession of firearms, by the Kwara State High court.
According to the judgement delivered by Justice Hannah Amati, the convicted Herdsmen, Tambaya Abubakar, Babuga Umaru, Shehu Umaru, Mojumba Bello, Abubakar Juli, and Mamma Lawali, were found guilty of the charges.
The convicts conspired and kidnapped one Usman Mohammed while armed with two single barrel guns at Osi, Ekiti local government area of Kwara state, according to the charge before the court.
According to the charge, the convicts kidnapped Mohammed and took him into the bush, where they demanded a ransom, which was paid by the victim’s family for N400,000.
Barrister Abdulmumini Adebimpe Jimoh (SAN), the Director of Public Prosecutions who prosecuted the case, expressed satisfaction with the judge’s decision, saying it would serve as a deterrent to others who might want to commit such an act.
