Court Sentences 22-Year-Old To Death By Hanging For Murder

A High Court in Abeokuta on Wednesday sentenced 22-year-old Jamiu Malomo to death by hanging for murdering a sex worker.
Malomo, who denied the charge, was convicted on one count of murder.
In delivering judgment, Justice O. Ogunfowora ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, establishing Malomo’s guilt.
“The evidence presented by the prosecution was unchallenged,” the judge stated before pronouncing the death sentence.

“You are guilty of killing Asisat Akande as charged. You will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy on your soul,” he declared.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Director of Public Prosecution Mr. A. M. Adebayo, revealed during the trial that the crime occurred on July 18, 2021, around 9:30 p.m. at Ori-Apata community, Oke-Aregba, Abeokuta.
The offence violated Section 316 and is punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State 2006, which mandates the death penalty for offenders.
