Court Sets Nov 20 for Judgment In Kanu’s Terrorism Trial
The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 20 to deliver judgment on the seven-count terrorism charge filed by the Federal Government against Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Justice James Omotosho gave the ruling date after Kanu failed to open his defence within the six days allotted to him.
The detained IPOB leader, representing himself after parting ways with his lawyers, instead filed a motion challenging both the competence of the charge and the court’s jurisdiction.
Earlier on Friday, the court had stood down the case for an hour to allow Kanu to proceed with his defence.
In his filing, he argued that his prosecution was based on a nonexistent law, claiming that the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, under which he was charged, had been repealed.
