Court Summons Wigwe’s Cousin Over Will
The Probate Registry of the Lagos State High Court has summoned Christian Chukwuka Wigwe, cousin of the late Access Bank Chief Executive Officer, Herbert Wigwe, to appear within eight days regarding a caveat he entered concerning the distribution of the deceased’s estate.
Christian Wigwe is seeking to challenge the provisions of Herbert Wigwe’s will, which outlines the distribution of his estate.
The Nation reports that in a directive issued through Probate Form 7, the court ordered Christian to set forth his interest in the estate either in person or through his legal representative.
The court further stated that if Christian has no contrary interest but wishes to oppose the sealing of a grant of probate, he should file a summons for direction through the Registrar.
The court warned, “Take notice that in default of your so doing, the court may proceed to issue a grant of probate or administration on the said estate notwithstanding your caveat.”

The warning notice was issued at the request of Mr. Uchechukwu N. Wigwe, the personal representative of the late Herbert Wigwe’s estate, as outlined in his will dated July 9, 2013.
The caveat, which is reportedly supported by an affidavit from Christian Wigwe, is alleged to have been filed under the direction of Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, Herbert’s father.
A report by The Nation claimed that the family had requested 20% of Herbert Wigwe’s estate, despite the will stipulating that his wealth be distributed solely among his children.
However, Pastor Wigwe denied these claims. In a statement issued by Mr. Emeka Wigwe on behalf of the family, he emphasized that at no time did the family request any percentage of the late Herbert Wigwe’s estate.
Osun Defender recalls that Herbert Wigwe, along with his wife and son, tragically died in a helicopter crash in the Mojave Desert near the California-Nevada border on February 9. The crash also claimed the life of Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former group chairman of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, and three others.
