The Federal High Court sitting in Enugu has ordered the suspension of admission processes for the 2025/2026 academic session in the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

An education technology expert and Chief Executive Officer of Educare, Alex Onyia, confirmed the development in a post on his X handle on Tuesday, where he shared the court order.

The order, issued on Tuesday by Justice A.T. Segun-Bello, followed an ex-parte motion filed by five candidates, Chibuzor Success, Oyeleye Zainab Ayomide, Adedeji John Samuel, Monsura Aliat Aduragbem, and Bassey Daniel Nsikak on behalf of other applicants who participated in the 2025 post-UTME examinations of the two universities.

The applicants had sought interim injunctions restraining UNILAG, OAU, and JAMB from releasing, approving, uploading, or finalising any admission list for the new academic session.

In his ruling, Justice Segun-Bello held that the case raised “veritable and triable issues” that warranted hearing from both sides.

He therefore directed the applicants to put the respondents on notice while ordering all parties to maintain the status quo pending the hearing of the substantive motion.

The interim order effectively preserves the current state of affairs, halting admission activities in both universities until the matter is determined.

The case has been adjourned to October 28, 2025, for further hearing.
