Court Upholds Suspension of NNPP Kano Chairman

A Kano High Court has upheld the suspension of Hashimu Dungurawa, the state chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) from Gargari ward in Dawakin-Tofa LGA.

Dungurawa was sacked and expelled by ward executives on December 30, 2025, just two weeks after his re-election.

The 27-member Gargari ward executive accused him of causing divisions within the party and instigating internal crises.

Following his removal, Abdullahi Abiya was appointed as the acting NNPP state chairman in Kano.

In a motion ex parte filed the same day by Shuaibu Hassan and nine others, the court barred Dungurawa from presenting himself as the NNPP Kano state chairman pending the final determination of the case.

The plaintiffs, members of Gargari ward, argued that Dungurawa had denigrated Governor Abba Yusuf, fostered party divisions, and failed to pay party dues.

Presiding Judge Zuwaira Yusuf granted the interlocutory injunction, maintaining Dungurawa’s suspension until the substantive case is heard.

The court also directed both parties to maintain the status quo as of December 30, 2025, with the hearing scheduled for January 19, 2026.
