Eleven suspects have been paraded by the Osun State Police Command for various offences ranging from armed robbery, fraud, impersonation, burglary, and stealing among others.
Seven of the suspects, Lasisi Isiaka, 37; Akintayo Selimu Adekunle, 32; Kamoru Olofaina, 32; Adeniyi Akeem, 32; Basiru Soliu, 27; Umoru Saheed, and Aderibigbe Kunle, 23 were arrested for alleged robbery, burglary and stealing.
Three other suspects, Afolabi Ganiyu, 33; AbdulKadir Adesina, 40 and Wasiu Sule, 32 were arrested over alleged fraud and impersonation, under the pretence of being ritualists; while one other suspect, an ex-convict, Oyebisi Sodiq was arrested over alleged armed robbery with a toy gun.
Oyebisi Sodiq who had been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for a case of armed robbery and was released from prison on 15th April 2017 confessed that he actually stole a motorcycle when he went for a carnival party at Ede.
He said, “I stole the motorcycle because I was stranded and I had no money to transport myself back to Ifon Osun where I reside”.
According to Osun Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Folashade Odoro, Oyebisi was in possession of fire arm and the Bajaj motorcycle he stole as at the time he was arrested.
She added that based on this he was arrested and a search warrant was executed in his house at Ifon Osun where items including, one toy gun, one plate number with reg. no FTD 851 QB and TVS Bajaj motorcycle were recovered.
Besides, Odoro said the arrest of the seven suspects who were arrested for armed robbery, burglary and stealing followed a complaint by one Mrs Hawa Jamiu, who reported that she left her house at Oluwalogbon Estate behind Konkobilo Hotel, Ilobu road around 08:00 hrs and on her return at about 17:30 hrs she discovered that her house had been burgled.
She said, valuables, including Samsung Television valued N70,000, one Mini HP Laptop valued N65,000, one HTC phone valued N35,000 and some jewelries valued N40,000 had been carted away.
Upon complaint, the PPRO said the police commenced investigation and the suspects were arrested, saying the suspects confessed to have committed the offence which led to the recovery of the stolen properties.
Other stolen items recovered are three iron bar, one Samsung Galaxy S6 phone, one woofer speaker, two HP laptop, five types of television and remote control, one black laptop bag, one saw blade, one unregistered Bajaj motorcycle, one cutlass and 19 laptops.
On the three suspects arrested for fraud and impersonation, the PPRO said they were arrested based on the complaint of one Ajayi Adefunke, who received a text message which was a recharge pin on her phone, she called the phone number that sent the recharge pin and the call was received by an old man who pleaded that the recharge pin be forwarded back to him as it was meant for his son.
”Subsequently, she forwarded back the recharge pin to the sender while the old man requested that she should visit him in Ilase Village which she did in company of her husband.
“On getting to the village, Funke and her husband were requested to perform a sacrifice which was done by Afolabi Ganiyu, also known as Ifatoki and after the sacrifice, the victims were asked to bring six denominations of 100 dollars, six denominations of 50 Euros, six denominations of 50 pounds and six denominations of 1000 naira, making the sum of N560,000 which was handed over to Afolabi Ganiyu.
”Funke and her husband realised that they have been dealing with fraudsters when they were later asked to bring another N300,000.
“During the investigation, the second suspect Abdulkadir Adesina who happens to be the surety of Afolabi Ganiyu and the third suspect, Wasiu Sule who impersonated a lawyer were arrested.
The exhibit recovered from Afolabi include; one mirror, booklets of receipt, six calabashes, one wooden box, three charms account book, one local pot, a complete local attire and a cap.
Afolabi confessed that he actually duped the complainant as alleged, while Wasiu Sule also confessed that he studied law in the University of Benin but has not been to Law School nor call to bar.
