By Murtala Agboola

Nigerians have been advised to report all crimes to the police and be prepared to assist the police in its prosecution.

The call was made by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ataoja Police Division, Osogbo, Mr. Clement Agbemoroti at the monthly meeting of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) at the Police Station recently.

Agbemoroti, a superintendent of Police (SP) recalled a crime report made by the representative of Eleyele Community of Ogo-Oluwa under the division, where the house of a member of the community was burgled when the husband and wife were away to their places of work.

Among the valuables carted away were television set, radio and a decoder of startimes digital satellite television.

The police chief said, the theft was reported at the Ataoja Police Division and the report was made available to the head office of startimes at Oke-Fia.

“The burglar was arrested when attempt was made to recharge after exhausting the subscription on the decoder.

“He was taken to Dugbe Police Station  from where the police at Ataoja were invited to take over”.

He hinted that the police, was preparing to charge the man to court.

The police chief therefore stressed the fact that all crimes must be reported to the police so that the victim would not become the villain.

He said, if crimes are not incidented, if the stolen goods are recovered, the owner cannot retrieve them.

The DPO also narrated an accident at Ayegbaju market, Old Governor’s office recently, where a Pastor driving a suv killed a school boy.

He told the gathering that he was there to pacify the father of the deceased boy with other sympathisers not to take the law into their hands.

Agbemoroti said he was pushed around in an attempt to calm frayed nerves and had to restrain himself when his attempts to pacify the father of the deceased boy failed.

The chairman of the PCRC, High Chief Gbadebo Adeyemo stated that residents have to be extra-vigilant because some motorcyclists come around from neighbouring towns to perpetrate crimes. He therefore asked people to watchout for motorcycle riders who leave and arrive at to their residential areas as early as 5am.

Most of them, according to him, come around to steal valuables and dispossess people of their property.
