Cristiano Ronaldo Faces 99 Lashes Over Alleged Adultery
Al-Nassr star, Cristiano Ronaldo could be sentenced to 99 lashes for adultery when next he visits Iran because of a photo with a painter.
According to Mundo Deportivo, a number of lawyers in Iran have filed a criminal complaint about the hug, as touching a woman who is not your wife is seen as adultery in the country.
Ronaldo had in September with Al-Nassr travel to Iran to face Persepolis in the group stage of the Asian Champions League.
During the visit, the Portuguese international met Iranian painter Fatima Hamimi, who wanted to gift a picture which she made specially for the former Real Madrid star.
According to reports, Ronaldo kissed her on the cheek and gave her a signed shirt, while he also posed for a photo in which he hugs her.
Based on Iranian laws, touching a married woman is equivalent to adultery which informed the lawyers taking up the case.
Iranian network Sharq Emroz, as per Mundo Deportivo, state that the Iranian justice system reacted quickly to the photo of the pair and sentenced Ronaldo to 99 lashes the next time he travels to Iran.
It is, however, reported by Marca, the sentence could be forgiven by a judge if ‘the acts are not punishable or Ronaldo shows remorse’.
