Cult Clashes: ONSU Tasks Stakeholders To Curtail Excesses
The Osogbo National Students’ Union (ONSU) has appealed to the government of the State of Osun and security agencies to take active steps in curtailing the activities of cult gangs in Osogbo and neighbouring town.
In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Sikiru Obarayese, the union frowned at the activities of the cult groups, particularly the recent clashes among the groups, which disrupted business activities and created fear among the populace, saying the activities must be curtailed.
“The ONSU is absolutely unhappy with the turn of events recently, particularly on the activities of cult groups who have been truncating the peace of the Osogbo and its environs.
“Osogbo in particular and Osun in general have been known over the years to be peaceful, owing to the investment of the government in security of lives and property, but the recent cult clashes had shown that there are lots more to be done.
“It is unfortunate that some security operatives are not helping matter, as their activities have shown that they are either indolent or determined to aid and abet criminals” as some of them were seen standing aloof during the clashes, the statement stressed.
The union then called on the government, security operatives, and other stakeholders to collaborate and take proactive measures towards curtailing the threat of peaceful atmosphere the state is known for.
